NOW PLAYING: "Stayin Alive"

Update May 16, 2008

Hi Grandpop Steve,

Just wanted to let you know that I am doing just fine.

I am all better now and I can't thank you enough for getting me the medical help that I needed to get healthy again.

Life here at my mom's house is great. I get to play with all the other dogs and mom just loves me, she let's me sleep with her every night, and I even have my own spot on the couch that I can nap on after a busy day at play outside. I just love to go outside and my favorite toy is a little grey squeaky elephant. I wake mom up at night when I bring it in the house with me and play with it at 2am, but she understands that I love my toy. I carry it with me all the time.

I am getting big and fat and my hair is growing in beautiful, mom always tells me how handsome I am.  I am going to get groomed and all fixed up nice in a few weeks. I get to meet my new dad again. I didn’t get to spend much time with him before and I was not feeling my best, so I am excited about meeting him, another man to play with.

Well just thought I would say hello and send you some pic's that mom took of me, hope you enjoy them, and I can't wait too see you in a few weeks.

Love you Grandpop Steve,

Otis, (otisbagoatis), mom gave me that nickname, hehehe

Due to an unfortunate misdiagnosis,  our gentle 18 month old rescued puppy named Otis, contracted a severe case of Demodex mange.  The mange resulted in widespread Staphylococcus (Staph) skin infections that developed into open sores and resulting in hair loss on his face and back.  He also developed internal infections, infected ears and infected eyes.  The internal mites caused him to be underweight and undernourished.

But Otis is a brave puppy and fighting hard to get healthy.  As bad as these photos look, Otis has improved 300% from just a week ago.  Otis has captured the hearts of everyone who is helping him.  That is Bill with Otis at Otis’ new veterinary office, LaPaloma Animal Hospital in Granbury, Texas.  Bill and the staff have taken a special interest in curing Otis.  Their efforts are nothing short of miraculous.  Otis’s open sores are healing, he is putting on weight, and he is perking up.

Here he is with his two new friends at the vet’s office.  You will notice that Otis has already “weaseled” his way onto couch privileges in Bill’s office.

But Otis’ total medical bills are already over $1,500.  We think this wonderful boy is worth it.  If you want to help Otis, Texas Old English Sheepdog Rescue, Inc. would welcome donations.
